The Archdiocese of New York has released the names of 120 clergy members who have been credibly accused of child sex abuse. The list, released on April 26th, identifies 115 priests and 5 deacons and includes two graphs. One illustrates the year of clergy members’ ordinations and the other illustrates the number of reported abuse incidents for the years covered by the report. [see below].
The list – with names included here – includes clergy members who, as determined by the Archdiocese, were “credibly accused” of child sexual. Any one of the following underlies a determination of being “credibly accused:”
Included on the list is former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick who was defrocked by the Vatican in February, 2019. He is one of the highest ranking clergy members “credibly accused” of child sexual abuse.
Also included on the Archdiocese’s list are the names of 59 clergy members against whom allegations of child sexual abuse were made to and compensated for through the Archdiocese’s survivor compensation program that was previously, launched, implemented and concluded.
Fig. 1 shows the year of ordination for archdiocesan clergy who were credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor or the subject of eligible IRCP compensation claims.
